Hi.
I’m Julian Murdoch. I write things.
This isn’t a professional website, this is just a random place for me to post things, host the occasional file, collect emails, and pass things back and forth with the ether. I’ve been lucky enough not to have time to put together a professional website just to blather about myself and post samples, but there it goes, I’ve now cursed myself and will be without deadline for the next four months.
If for some reason you’ve decided this was the easiest way to contact me, well, there are much easier ones, not the least of which being sending me an email at (small furry animal for whom the cave is named) atsign rabbitcave.com.
Or just IM me at GWJRabbit on AIM.
So what do I mean “I write things.” Well, sometimes I’m uncomfortable with this:
“Hi, I’m Bill, Jane’s dad.”
“Oh right, yeah, I’m Julian. Our kids go to the same dance camp. How’s it going.”
“Oh you know, been a tough year in the market, what with the debt crisis and all. I’m a broker. What do you do?”
“Oh, I’m a writer.”
Pregnant pause
“Oh, anything I might have read? What kind of books do you write?”
And then there’s the whole conversation about how I don’t write fiction, nor do I write self help books or DIY Kitchen Decoration books. I have to explain that yes you can piece together a living writing about games, or commodities, or energy policy. That there really is a market for corporate writing. That speechwriting is really fun and pays really well, no matter how anonymous it might be.
It always sounds like I’m protesting too much.
So I write stuff. Some of it’s good stuff, of which I’m proud. Some of it pays the bills. Some of it roundfiles before I ever even hit save. Anyway, it’s what I do, and I really wouldn’t want to do anything else. I don’t consider myself an “author” or an “artist” – I’m in the word delivery business. I deliver the best words I can make, on time, where you want it, on budget. It’s not really any different than hiring someone to deliver milk. I’m not modest. It’s good milk.
And I think my rates are very reasonable. Operators are standing by.
